I am a FIRM believer in living your life 80/20 when it comes to nutrition (more on that coming in a post soon!). I do not diet, or think your body benefits from eliminating certain food groups to get to a “goal weight”. I think it is SO important to eat REAL foods, and to indulge in life’s simple pleasures (like a beer and a plate of nachos with friends) here and there.
One of my all time FAVORITE comfort foods is cereal. Go ahead, judge me. But on a rainy Sunday morning, I am all about pouring myself a bowl of cereal and perching on the couch with some really horrible television. Again, keep the judgement coming :). BUT, I am not talking about the Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms variety. Just looking at the ingredients list on those bad boys makes my stomach hurt. Cereals with that much added sugar and artificial ingredients do NOTHING good for your beautiful bod. Once you really cut back on added sugar, you’ll taste cereals like that and grimace at the fact that you could ever enjoy them.
My go-to cereals these days? I love Barbara’s Multigrain Spoonfuls, Peanut Butter Puffins, or any variation of corn flakes. My go-to is a “kamikaze bowl”, a little bit of each in a bowl, with sliced banana, and blackberries. Disclaimer: be VERY aware of what a serving size for each cereal is, and either half, or third the recommended serving size depending on how many cereals you are combining. I also like to pair cereal with a citrus (right now I am loving a full orange, sliced, but in the summer, I pair with half a grapefruit), as it helps me feel fuller, versus going back for a second bowl.
